The University of Washington
Otolaryngology team is joining a joining a humanitarian effort in Honduras this
spring, March 21-29, 2015. The purpose will be to provide medical and
surgical ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) care to the indigent near Balfate, on the
north coast of Honduras, at a hospital called Loma de Luz (Hill of Light).
The foundation was started in 1992 by Dr. Jeff McKenney, and now boasts a
50 bed hospital treating 900 patients monthly for general surgery and primary
care (www.crstone.org). Dr.
Kaalan Johnson first made this trip during residency in 2008 has returned
yearly since that time.
This year’s Seattle team
will include Drs. Johnson and Bohannon as attending ENT surgeons, a scrub tech
from Seattle Children’s Hospital - Pete Williams, and residents Randy Bly and
Angelique Berens. Several patients, who are already in need of our services, are
being pre-screened by Dr. McKenney. Our team consists of seasoned
veterans and first-timers, and we are all very excited to serve!
